Though I was born and raised in south Texas, I have always preferred hip-hop music that had a New York state of mind. Today's Hip-Hop landscape is dominated by a wide variety of voices, many of which have a southern accent. Though I do believe Hip-Hop is still breathing, the days of east coast dominance are over. However, with albums from Jay-Z, Rakim, Grand Puba, Q-tip, Raekwon, and others, 2009 was a great year for those who needed a respite from the Lil Waynes and Flo Ridas of the world.

Below, we go to the ipod for some tracks from Brooklyn's own Mos Def, from his 2009 release The Ecstatic. I think it might have been the best album of 2009. Enjoy!

"History" is classic Blackstar. Talib Kweli joins his partner for a beautiful example of what Hip-Hop should sound like.

This is probably my favorite song on the album. And it is over four minutes long, which is uncharacteristic of the overall project. The brevity of the songs would be my only complaint on this joint.

"Roses" features the lovely voice of Georgia Anne Muldrow, and it is a gorgeous song.

Tweet of the Week!

I have noted in earlier posts that I am a fairly active participant on the social networking site known as Twitter. It is a useful resource for news, sports, humor, socializing, and general bullshit and time wasting. With the inception of this blog, I have discovered that the porn community is very active on the site, and that there is whole twitter world devoted to the musings and day to day activities of your favorite porn stars, web models, and camgirls. As with every technological advancement or social phenomenon, the porn industry has managed to defile Twitter, and thank God for that. BCS National Championship... and a sexy fat girl!

As many of you know, tonight is the night that the college football world crowns its champion (however unfairly). The BCS (this stands for Big Crappy System) national championship game is tonight, and it pits the Texas Longhorns against the Alabama Crimson Tide. This a matchup that will get any college football fan hot and wet, regardless of your team affiliation, as these are two of the most storied programs in the sport. Obviously, I am not crazy about how these two teams were picked to play in this game, but I must admit that this is the type of matchup that this game is made for. And I can't wait!

So I'll weigh in with my thoughts and predictions about tonight's game. Even though I will be openly rooting for the boys in burnt orange, I am predicting that Bama will win tonight, but it will be close. Here are three reasons why:

Defensive Lineman Terrence Cody

1. The Alabama Defense: Texas has not faced a team with a defense as good as Alabama all year. The Horns had all kinds of trouble with Nebraska's Ndamukong Suh in the Big 12 championship and barely escaped victorious. They face a Bama defense that has talent in all three phases tonight, and I don't think they will overcome it.

Running the Football: With Heisman Trophy winner Mark Ingram, Trent Richardson, and Roy Upchurch, along with a very solid offensive line, the Crimson Tide has a feature in their offense that the Horns simply do not have. Bama has a tremendous advantage in the run game. Texas' biggest offensive weakness may be their dependency on the short passing game as a substitute for a consistent running threat. This may put too much of the burden on Colt McCoy to keep Texas in the game. Also, if Bama manages to get a lead, they'll be able to keep the football away from the Horns.

Saban

3. Coaching: While I have a great deal of respect for coach Mack Brown-- he's a god down here-- it is very difficult to pick against Nick Saban when he has so much time to prepare. The reason the folks in Tuscaloosa brought him in and paid him such an obscene amount of money is because he is possibly the most hard-working coach in the country. He also has a very good record in big games, and is considered a better in-game strategist than his counterpart in this game.

The Nexus One gets a Comprehensive Review... and some Devious Masturbation
